Contemporary Scottish Artists

One of the places that I've found loads of other Scottish artists is the artists page in Scotsmart.com

http://www.scotsmart.com/c/artists.html

There are a great list of websites belonging to artists that you might not have heard of that produce very high quality work. Often that is what you need to find a bargain from an artist not represented by a gallery yet.

Despite it being a page buried in a directory, we get quite a bit of traffic to here from our Scotsmart listing.

Glasgow School of Art website

Just been looking through the GSA website this afternoon. Can't remember how I stumbled on it, but as you'd expect from an art school, it's full of contemporary web design, and is just ever so slightly on the difficult side to use.
I was looking through the exhibitions section and found last years degree show. They seem to have a piece online from everyone who entered work in the degree show, along with contact details. Fantastic move, meaning anyone who saw the show last year can find the artist responsible for that image in their head that just wont go away, and hopefully commission them to do another one.

Gallery Selling JoLoMo John Lowrie Morrison Originals

Having just gone on yesterday about how much I admire JoLoMo paintings, I've just walked past the Strathearn Gallery in Crieff, not more than a couple of hundred yards from home, and found that their current exhibition is stuffed full of JoLoMo originals, all for sale. They've got loads of them, so I'm off now to have another look. Brilliant stuff.

The Official JoLoMo website

One of my favourite painters, and probably one of Scotland's favourite painters of the moment is John Lowrie Morrison, also know as JoLoMo from the way he signs his paintings.

I don't know how art society describes JoLoMo's paintings, but to me they appear as mental colourful landscapes almost ready to burst because there is so much energy and colour in them.

JoLoMo's originals still start at reasonable prices for an artist of this calibre, and we're hoping one day to be able to buy one. His original paintings can also go for thousands though I believe, and rightly so.

I don't know anything about the man. I did read somewhere that he gives a lot of his proceeds to charity which is laudable in this day. We're also lucky to be able to buy prints, cards and other items created from the original art so that we've got something to take home if we can't just afford the real painting.

Anyway, I've found it slightly difficult in the past to find the official JoLoMo website, so here's the link:

Glasgow Art Fair - Scotland's National Art Fair

This april sees the 10th annual Glasgow Art Fair. April 28th to 2nd May. Set up in tents in Glasgow's George Square, the fair is hugely popular and shows art from over 50 galleries. It is a top class show, enticing people through it's doors who would normally shy away from visiting galleries where they might feel out of their depth. This is commercial art available to all. Great stuff. Glasgow Art Fair - see you there

New watercolour brushes

It's been some time since I went out and bought a watercolour paintbrush, but looking at the state of my Dick Blick brushes I bought 11 years ago in America it's about time to go and find some new ones.

Question is, do I go to the local art shop and spend way over the odds to get a couple of new brushes, or do I shop online, save money and not have to move my behind from my chair?Tough call, but I think in this case I'll support my local art supplies store and buy my brushes there.

I'm sure there are loads of new brushes available now so I'll let you know how I get on.

Show your art online at minigallery

People often ask me where to display art online, and though I might not know all the places, I do know that www.minigallery.co.uk is a great outlet. It is very easy to use and the subscription cost is easy made up with just one sale. I've had lots more than that though from minigallery.
Adding paintings to the gallery is easy with well defined boxes for all the info you should list about each painting. It also has an automatic photo resizer and uploader. Why not give it a whirl with your own paintings.

Artery Gallery in Crieff

Just wanted to let everyone know about a gallery that opened in Crieff, Perthshire not too long ago. Artery gallery is found on King St and though it has a small front to it, there is great use of space inside.
The pieces on display are and eclectic mix, and Mrs C has got it in her head that she really wants some of the customised wine glasses selling there. Prices are good though, and there are some excellent pieces within the reach of most people. Great website too.

New site, new start

As you can see from the blogs below, it's been some time since I've done any art blogging whatsoever. It's not to say I've not been painting, just that I kind of forgot about the blog. So in an effort to kickstart things again, I've turned the entirety of www.orwellgallery.co.uk into an art blog. Hope you like it.

Here's a painting I sold this morning on ebay.
