Yet another Sutherland highlight...

You'd never guess that I was up in Sutherland on my easter holidays earlier this year. This is one of the classic end-on views of Stac Pollaidh. I really struggle to paint a landscape without foreground, so this one was quite difficult. Next time I try it, I'll add in some land and broom in the immediate foreground.

Because I lacked foreground with the photo I was working from, I was experimenting to add some interest to the painting. The water was coated with a mix of pearlescent medium and clear varnish, and the hills coated with clear varnish. The edges of the hills have been outlined in gold. It does add something, but it wont be to everyone's taste.
