Thursday, June 24, 2004 Yet another Sutherland highlight... 
You'd never guess that I was up in Sutherland on my easter holidays earlier this year. This is one of the classic end-on views of Stac Pollaidh. I really struggle to paint a landscape without foreground, so this one was quite difficult. Next time I try it, I'll add in some land and broom in the immediate foreground. Because I lacked foreground with the photo I was working from, I was experimenting to add some interest to the painting. The water was coated with a mix of pearlescent medium and clear varnish, and the hills coated with clear varnish. The edges of the hills have been outlined in gold.
